Why the Balkans Works for Asian Groups

Asian travellers — particularly those from the Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan and Indonesia — have specific requirements that the Balkans addresses unusually well.

Multi-country variety in a short timeframe. A 7-night Balkan circuit passes through 5–6 countries. For Asian clients who measure a successful trip partly by the number of destinations visited, this is a compelling proposition. Visa-free access. The standard 7-night Balkan circuit operates as follows, using Prishtina as the starting point (served by direct flights from Istanbul via Turkish Airlines from most Asian departure cities):

Day 1 — Prishtina, Kosovo

Arrival at Prishtina International Airport. Kosovo is often the most surprising element of the programme for Asian clients — a young, dynamic country with a modern capital, welcoming population and genuine hospitality. City tour: National Library (one of the most distinctive modernist buildings in Europe), Newborn Monument, Grand Bazaar.

Day 2 — Skopje → Ohrid

Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia: Stone Bridge, Macedonia Square, Old Bazaar — one of the most intact Ottoman bazaars in the Balkans. Drive south along Lake Ohrid — the clearest and oldest lake in Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Arrival in Ohrid at dusk.

Day 3 — Ohrid

Full day in Ohrid: St. John at Kaneo cliff church (the most photographed site in the programme), Car Samuel's Fortress, Plaošnik archaeological complex. Day 4 — Montenegro

Day 6 — Sarajevo → Belgrade

Day 7 — Belgrade

Practical Logistics

Getting There

The most efficient routing for Asian groups uses Istanbul as a hub. Turkish Airlines connects most major Asian cities to Istanbul, with onward connections to Prishtina (PRN), Skopje (SKP) or Belgrade (BEG). For groups ending in Belgrade, the return routing is straightforward. Transit time from Manila, Bangkok or Taipei is typically 12–16 hours including the Istanbul connection.

Coach vs Flight

The entire circuit is operated by private air-conditioned coach — there are no domestic flights required. Driving distances are manageable (Ohrid to Kotor is approximately 3.5 hours), and the scenery en route — Lake Ohrid, the Bay of Kotor, the Neretva River gorge — is itself part of the experience.
